Abstract

Sustainable tourism has gained prominence in recent years as travelers and industry stakeholders increasingly prioritize environmental preservation, cultural respect, and economic support for host communities. This growing emphasis on responsible travel stems from heightened global awareness of environmental challenges such as climate change, pollution, and the depletion of natural resources. Consequently, tourist behavior is evolving toward choices that reduce ecological footprints and promote long-term sustainability. A key outcome of this shift is the emergence of eco-tourism, where travelers seek out destinations and activities that align with eco-friendly principles, including the use of renewable energy, waste reduction, and the protection of natural habitats. Nature-based activities—such as hiking, wildlife observation, and participation in conservation projects—not only provide enriching experiences for tourists but also foster a sense of environmental stewardship. This paper explores the key drivers behind the rise of sustainable tourism and highlights the importance of integrating ecological awareness with tourism development to ensure the ongoing viability and integrity of destinations worldwide.
