Abstract

The study was conducted to assess the relationship between social skill which is an aspect of Emotional Intelligence and the performance of employees in Guarantee Trust Bank, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. Survey research design was employed. Population of the study was 92. The entire population was used as the sample size owing to its small nature. Primary and secondary sources of data were employed for the study. Modified Likert scale was used as the instrument for collecting data and they were administered to the respondents in their respective offices. Pearson product moment correlation statistical too, was used in testing the studied hypothesis. Findings revealed an R-value of 0.68 which is greater than the critical R-value of 0.217. It was therefore concluded that social skill significantly relates to employees’ performance in Guarantee Trust Bank, Uyo, Nigeria. As recommendation, management of Guarantee Trust Bank should organise get-together, parties, picnics and other social events to enable their employees acquire social skill.
