VETERINARY VICTORIES: DYNAMIC COMPRESSION PLATING IN CANINE RADIO-ULNAR FRACTURE REHABILITATION

Maya Krishnan Pillai

📅 November 29, 2023 | 📄 pp. 24-27

Fractures in dogs resulting from trauma, such as automobile accidents, can be successfully managed using dynamic compression plating (DCP). This case report presents the surgical management of a non-descript male dog with a radio ulnar fracture using DCP. The animal had resumed bearing weight on the affected limb by the 14th post-operative day and made an uneventful recovery. The article outlines the surgical procedure and discusses the advantages and disadvantages of DCPs and other fracture management procedures, as well as post-operative considerations for patients. Moreover, it provides an overview of fractures and their classification, with a focus on dog fractures...

NAVIGATING HEALTH HURDLES: PROMOTING IPT ADHERENCE IN EASTLANDS, NAIROBI'S CONTEXT

James Kariuki Maina

📅 November 29, 2023 | 📄 pp. 1-23

: Tuberculosis (TB) remains a significant global health concern, particularly for individuals living with HIV. In 2016, TB was listed among the top ten causes of death for people living with HIV (PLHIV), with a substantial number of deaths attributed to this co-infection. The prevalence of TB, exacerbated by high HIV prevalence, has led to a resurgence of TB cases in various regions. However, the uptake of Isoniazid Preventive Therapy (IPT) as a preventive measure against TB has been notably low, particularly in areas with a high TB burden. Despite efforts to increase IPT adoption, various challenges persist, including medication...

HYPERCALCIURIA IN FOCUS: PEDIATRIC NEPHROCALCINOSIS CLINICAL INSIGHTS AND TREATMENT PROGRESS

Luan Krasniqi, Ana Marku, Dritan Beqiri

📅 November 29, 2023 | 📄 pp. 28-33

Nephrocalcinosis (NC) is a rare renal disorder that is increasingly being diagnosed in both children and adults. This study aims to analyze the etiology, presenting complaints, clinical findings, growth and development, renal function at presentation, treatment, and to relate growth and renal function to changes in NC in patients with a follow-up for a period of at least 36 months. Data on 18 children with a US diagnosis of bilateral NC were analyzed. The most frequent causes of NC were hereditary tubulopathy and vitamin D intoxication in childhood in Albania. The treatment of underlying conditions is associated with catch-up growth...

HEMATOLOGICAL IMPACT IN FELINE FRACTURE HEALING: ALKALINE PHOSPHATASE LEVELS WITH EXTERNAL SKELETAL FIXATOR AND INTRAMEDULLARY PIN TIE-IN VIA EPOXY PUTTY

Kumar Menon Sunil, Krishnan Nair Maya

📅 November 29, 2023 | 📄 pp. 34-37

The healing process of long bone fractures in cats is an important area of veterinary research. This study aimed to evaluate haemato-biochemical changes during healing of long bone fractures in cats, which were stabilised with a combination of external skeletal fixator with intramedullary pin tie-in configuration using epoxy putty. Six clinical cases of long bone fractures in cats were selected, and blood samples were collected from each cat preoperatively, on the day of surgery, and postoperatively on Day 14, 28, and 42, for evaluation of haematological parameters and serum levels of alkaline phosphatase. Statistical analysis revealed no significant variation in...
