Abstract

Tourism stands as one of the world's largest and swiftest expanding industries, wielding the power to stimulate economic growth, enhance employment opportunities, augment income levels, elevate living standards, and catalyze the advancement of ancillary sectors. To harness tourism as an agent of sustainable progress, it must tread cautiously in regions like Guyana, where its development hinges on safeguarding the Amazon rainforest. The quest for sustainability necessitates a well-devised mechanism that prevents forest and biodiversity degradation while ensuring the well-being of the communities it supports. The path towards sustainability is illuminated by Guyana's burgeoning rural tourism landscape, marked by a growing interest in nature-based experiences and the allure of rural tourism, underscored by the emergence of village tourism. To unlock the full tourism potential of these villages, active community participation and empowerment efforts are imperative. Nonetheless, while the industry brings forth favorable socio-economic impacts, it concurrently bestows negative environmental consequences on the area, manifesting as ecological degradation, noise pollution, and subpar waste management. In the context of the entertainment era, the festival tourism industry emerges as a potent force, capable of capitalizing on evolving social trends and philosophical shifts. The industry's dynamic nature lends itself to enhancing its ability to adapt and evolve in response to these trends, underpinning its continued growth and significance.
