The role of news media during and in pursuit of war has been a hotly debated topic since the Vietnam War. Some argue that the media can play a positive role by informing the public and holding governments accountable, while others believe that it can be used to manipulate public opinion and support for war. This paper examines the instrumental and genuine value of media during conflicts, drawing on research from political science, communication studies, and journalism.
