Abstract

The concept of accountability, as articulated by Glymn (1985), emerges as a fundamental and indispensable theme shaping the functioning of both private and public sectors. With roots traceable to ancient times, accountability stands as a cornerstone principle influencing organizational governance. This abstract explores the historical foundation of accountability and draws attention to its enduring significance in contemporary contexts. Glymn's assertion underscores accountability's pervasive nature, permeating diverse sectors and organizational structures. The New Testament, specifically the parable recounted by Matthew (25 Vs 14 - 30), provides a poignant narrative illustrating the essence of accountability. The parable revolves around a man entrusting his property to three servants, encapsulating the inherent responsibility associated with stewardship. In essence, accountability serves as a guiding principle, emphasizing the need for individuals and entities to be answerable for the resources, tasks, and responsibilities entrusted to them. The exploration of this theme extends beyond historical perspectives to underscore its relevance in modern organizational dynamics. The narrative from Matthew's Gospel serves as a timeless allegory, highlighting the consequences of faithful stewardship and the implications of negligence. As organizations grapple with evolving challenges and heightened expectations, the abstract advocates for a renewed focus on accountability. Whether in the private or public sector, the enduring nature of this concept resonates through historical narratives and remains pivotal in shaping ethical conduct, transparency, and effective governance. Understanding and embracing accountability not only aligns with historical wisdom but also establishes a robust foundation for responsible and sustainable organizational practices.
